The new trailer for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse has been released, and it looks amazing. This time, we’ll see Miles Morales as the star alongside a slew of other Spider-Men from across the multiverse.
There are many reasons to love the trailer for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. From its stunning visuals to the intriguing story it teases, there’s something for everyone. I’m certainly excited about this film and I’ll tell you why you should be too.
First, a bit of background information on what the Spider-Verse actually is. In 2014, Dan Slott, the writer of Amazing Spider-Man comics, decided that he wanted to create a story featuring “every Spider-Man, ever!”, and Marvel obliged.
Slott created a story that spanned a number of universes and combined every single Spider-Man he was allowed to use. Basically, he had free reign to do whatever he wanted, and he ran with it. The story centred around Morlun and his family – a villain who survived by absorbing the essence of animal totems with a particular fondness for spider totems.
In order to defeat the Inheritors, our Spider-Man (from Earth-616) teamed up with many other spider-powered heroes from across dimensions. Whether this was established characters like Spider-Man 2099 or new characters created for the event like Spider-Gwen, there were a huge number of spiders fighting together. It was a sight to behold.

The Possibilities of the Spider-Verse
Dan Slott’s story allowed for so many fans’ dreams to come true. It had never been possible for the different versions of the character to interact with one another until this event. There was even a loophole that allowed the Amazing Spider-Man to meet with the Superior Spider-Man.
It seems that we’ll encounter many different Spider-Men throughout the film, particularly when you consider that Spider-Gwen appears at the end of the trailer. We’ll probably see loads of versions of the character brought to life. After all, it wouldn’t be much of a Spider-Verse if there were only three heroes.
It could be that we even get a Sony Spider-Man reunion. In the comic event, Marvel wasn’t actually allowed to use Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield’s likeness (though they did manage to reference both incarnations). Perhaps the two actors could have a brief cameo in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as a nice callback to their films.
There’s also the possibility that we could see any number of Spider-Man’s villains. It’s well documented that the wall-crawler has one of the most colourful rogues galleries in comics. Who’s to say that we couldn’t get different interpretations of the villains?
There’s More Than Just Peter Parker
This Peter is much older than we’re used to and a much more experienced hero. Deep down, it’s clear to see that he’s still the same man we’ve all grown to love over the years. But there’s more to Spider-Man than just Peter Parker.
Miles Morales has become a hugely-popular hero in his own right, as has Spider-Gwen. Miguel O’Hara, the Spider-Man of 2099, is another character loved by the fans. After three film versions of Peter, maybe it’s time for some other characters to lead the way.
That’s not to say that Peter can’t play a part. Clearly he’ll be acting as a mentor to Miles in this film, and maybe this is his place now. Perhaps it’s time to move away from the romantic notion that Spider-Man is a high-school student and allow the character to take a different role.
Into The Spider-Verse Promises To Be A Spider-Man Film Unlike Any Other
For one thing, it’s a much more practical way to have many different Spider-Men on screen at the same time. It’s a lot cheaper to have 100 animated characters in one scene than 100 actors, for example.
The animation style is also something totally unique. It looks just like a comic book brought to life. This is possibly the most exciting part. We’ve never seen anything like this before and it certainly captures the wall-crawler’s movements brilliantly. The scenes early in the trailer featuring Miles in his bedroom also look almost stop-motion. It’s a truly magical thing to see.
Whatever the case, we’re definitely in for something special. This will be the first time that Miles Morales has been brought to the big screen and it seems that we’ll have the most unique Spider-Man film yet. I can’t wait!
