Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon is set to direct a movie adaptation for The Jetsons!

Yessirie, 27 years after its first and only film adaptation and 57 years after its television launch (told you I’m good at maths mum!), a The Jetsons movie is set to hit the big screen. As the old saying goes, hooray.

But that’s not all. The Jetsons movie is set to be directed by Conrad Vernon, who you may recognise from such things like Shrek 2, Monsters vs Aliens and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. Oh, and muthufucking Sausage Party. Although I have a feeling (slash I hope) The Jetsons movie will be a little more family friendly and a little less food-orgyie. But maybe that’s just me.

What will The Jetsons movie look like?

This is actually quite an interesting question. Given that it originated in the 1960s, The Jetsons’ world of sci-fi was one of goofy impracticalities (eg, flying cars). As I’m sure you’re all aware, science and technology has advanced quite a bit since the 60s. Modern sci-fi movies and TV shows reflect this.

So Conrad Vernon has a choice. Either he can set The Jetsons movie in a world where these technological advancements don’t exist, or he can modernise The Jetsons. Honestly, both options sound pretty awesome to me.

When will The Jetsons movie be released?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but probably not soon. These announcements about The Jetsons film are the very first, meaning the movie is very (very) early in development.

Who knows, maybe when it’s actually released we’ll have flying cars anyway?
