When WandaVision premiered in January, it marked the beginning of Phase Four of the MCU. The fan theories and speculation surrounding the show made it an event every week, and now WandaVision is back on everyone’s lips. Last week, some slight changes were made to the original post-credit scene in the finale of the show. Theorizing has begun once again, and if the rumours are true then this small change could link WandaVision to a future MCU project.

The Changes

The context of the scene itself remains the same. Wanda has retired to a remote cabin and is Astro-Projecting whilst she explores her newfound powers as Scarlet Witch. The changes Disney have made are so minor, many people would never spot them. As the camera pans around to Wanda’s cabin, we see a forest and mountains surrounding where she lives. Some of the trees at the base of this shot have changed around, but the real talking point is what’s above them.

There is seemingly a figure descending down towards Wanda’s cabin. This is hard to spot and it’s a reflection or shadow at best. But, there is definitely something moving through the trees.

What Does this Mean?

In truth, this update could be meaningless. But, it seems odd that Disney would make any changes to the scene months after it aired. There is also no confirmation about who or what this shadow is, or why the changes were made.

Fans have speculated that the shape of the shadow and the way it moves point towards it being Doctor Strange. It’s no secret that Wanda will be appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so perhaps Disney is laying the groundwork for that movie. Maybe we’ll see this scene make an appearance in the movie itself.

Doctor Strange was also intended to appear in WandaVision at one point. So chances are we’ll see a direct link between the series and the movie. Before delays due to Covid-19, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was supposed to hit cinemas on May 7th 2021. This would have timed the film to release just a few months after WandaVision ended. Perhaps this post-credit scene was the one that was always set to air, but due to the film’s delay, Disney changed it.

A Loki Tie-In?

It could be coincidence, but this change to the post-credit scene came in conjunction with the release of Loki on Disney+.

A few weeks ago, we saw Sylvie bomb the Sacred Timeline and set off a chain of Nexus events all across time. Perhaps one of the implications of this Sacred Timeline bombing was changing the ending of WandaVision. We also know that Scarlet Witch is a Nexus being, so perhaps Doctor Strange is seeking her out to help get the multiverse back into order.

I briefly touched on what Nexus events and beings are in my Loki Easter Egg article, so check that out if you’re interested.

What to Expect Next?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be a darker movie than what we’re used to in the MCU. The genre of the movie is something between horror and thriller, meaning that the eerie tones of WandaVision are likely to be carried through.

The film is now in post-production, so this change to the Wandavision post-credit scene could be coinciding with the editing of the film. If there’s a scene in the movie which shows Strange finding Wanda in her isolation, the basic changes in the tree placement could be cosmetic changes to match up.

We’re sure to find out more in time, hopefully when a trailer for the Doctor Strange sequel is released. Until then, we can only keep assuming. If Disney are yet to comment on the changes, then perhaps that does point towards them having some larger implications for the MCU. If they are in fact meaningless changes, there’s no reason why they wouldn’t share that information.

WandaVision is available to stream on Disney+ and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premieres in March 2022.
