Warning: If you need to call in sick tomorrow because you are too scared to leave the house, please don’t blame us! (Blame it on getting too drunk and sleeping in, managers love that).

1. Stranger Things

Starring: Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard

Stranger Things is an original Netflix series. The show is set in the 1980s in a small town called Hawkins, where of course everyone knows everyone.

A young boy named Will mysteriously goes missing. While the town, especially Will’s mother, try to find him, they discover a secret government agency. And that is where strange things start to happen.

Rather than listening about the dangers of searching for their friend, Will’s three best friends Dustin, Mike and Lucas set out on their own mission. In their search they find a young girl, who is on the run.

What could she be running from? Is the discovery of the government agency part of the reason? And why are there supernatural forces among the town?

If you enjoy a spine-chilling sci-fi, then this popular show is one not to miss.

And if you’ve already watched Season One, check out this spoiler-free review of the latest season.

2. Grimm

Starring: David Giuntoli, Elizabeth Tulloch, Russell Hornsby, Silas Weir Mitchell

Remember when you were young and were told some fairy tales or even spooky tales before going to bed? What if they came true?

Grimm is about detective Nick Burkhardt who has inherited a unique ability. He can see supernatural creatures in their true form. Nick is unaware of this gift until a relative of his visits the town he lives in, Portland, Oregon.

At first, Nick starts to think he is imagining things. But once he knows his family secret he can help solve more crimes, and of course battle the evil.

Each episode has new creatures, but still follows the journey Nick goes through finding out his family history and the long line of ‘Grimms’. Of course he has some help from his work partner Hank, his girlfriend Juliette and friends Monroe and Rosalie. You never know what is around the corner.

If you loved Buffy and the strange monsters, then this series is for you – especially as David Greenwalt has co-produced the series.

3. Santa Clarita Diet

Starring: Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant

If you need a zombie fix in a comical way, Santa Clarita Diet is one to gorge on.

Santa Clarita Diet is about a lovely married couple, Sheila and Joe. They have two children, are living in a nice house in a suburban area, and both have successful careers in real estate. When Sheila suddenly ‘dies’, their happy life turns upside down.

Follow the mishaps of what it is like to live with a zombie and how the family copes keeping it a secret.

4. Scream

Starring: Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna

With the success of the Scream franchise, a series emerged. Now, if you loved the movies and are seeking some more ‘screams’, then get ready to watch the blood being spilt.

The series revolves around a cyber-bullying incident that resulted in murder. As time goes on, the story of the murder comes back to haunt the town of Lakewood.

One by one a serial killer picks its victims. But the question is, why? And who is the murderer? The only way to find out is to collect the clues to solve who is behind the mask.

5. American Horror Story

Starring: Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Denis O’Hare

American Horror Story is one of scariest TV shows out there. It plays on your fears while exploring the unsettling world of evil.

What makes this show unique is that each season centres around a different subject of horror with its own story-line, characters, location and of course scares.

One season is called, ‘Murder House’, which is about a family who move into a haunted house, and experience the secrets hiding behind the walls. Another is ‘Asylum’, which follows the story of a man who is admitted to an insane asylum. ‘Coven’ is about the journey of a coven of witches finding out who belongs in their circle. ‘Freak Show’ tells the tales of its unique circus performers. ‘Hotel’ focuses on a hotel called Hotel Cortez and the stories of its guests.

So get committed, check your sanity, and book a reservation to watch this frightening show.

6. Sense8

Starring: Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Max Riemelt

What if you thought you were losing your mind with crazy visions? What if there was a chance that you were actually feeling a real human connection?

Sense8 disturbingly connects eight strangers from around the world. These lucky eight have been emotionally and mentally aligned. While the chosen crew try to gain an understanding of what is happening to them, they are also deal with the small nuisance of being hunted.

The eight characters must find a way to survive and help each other by using everyone’s abilities and skills. Will all of them outrun what is chasing them? Only way to find out is to tune in.

7. Lucifer

Starring: Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro

Lucifer is loosely based from the comic The Sandman. The show follows the story of the man himself, Lucifer Morningstar, deciding to leave Hell and instead live in Los Angeles – ironically The City of Angels. This won’t be good for the people on Earth.

Lucifer uses his ability to bring out people’s desires, but after witnessing a shootout involving him and a girl he meets, he decides to punish those who commit crimes.

Does Lucifer have a soft side? Only one way to find out (minus all the online spoilers but shh).

8. Slasher

Starring: Katie McGarth, Christopher Jacot, Jim Watson, Paula Brancati

Slasher is an edge of your seat thriller complete with gruesome murders, secrets, and mystery.

The series follows the story of Sarah Bennett. After a time away, Sarah returns to her old town where years before her parents were brutally murdered.

Upon her return, a new killer emerges, terrifying the town with copycat killings. Sarah starts to question the people around her in search of finding out who the murderer is.

With plenty of twists and turns, Slasher will have you doubting EVERYONE.

9. The Returned

Starring: Kevin Alejandro, Agnes Bruckner, Sophie Lowe

The Returned, a remake of the terrifying French show Les Revenants, is about a small town experiencing the return of past residents who have been gone for quite some time.

Strange phenomenons (including some good ol’ murder) start to occur, as the ‘undead’ try to re-live normal lives, unaware that they have actually died. Yes, trippy. Yes, awesome.

10. Black Mirror

Starring: Hannah John-Kamen, Michaela Coel

We live in a modern world full of technology. But what if there was a dark side to the advanced world?

Black Mirror is a unique series. Instead of showing blood and guts, it gets you thinking about the possibility of what can happen in the future, by taking a deeper look into society and humanity.

Each episode is different, and explores various types of technology. This show will honestly leave you disturbed, potentially for quite some time.

Some episodes make you question the impact technology has, and it might even get you reconsidering the screen in front of you (after you binge-watch a little more, obviously).
