Charmed, our favourite witchy sisters, are back in the news again, and it’s not good.
In 1998, Constance M. Burge brought us three sisters we will never forget: The Charmed Ones. Prue, Piper and Phoebe Halliwell magically came into our lives. We bonded with these sisters. When Prue died, we all wept. Renewed hope came in a form of a half-sister, Paige. Sisters, reunited again, brought magic into our lives.
When the Charmed series ended in 2006, it carried on, through comic books via Zenescope. We saw the return of Prue Halliwell. Let’s not forget all those novels and short stories from Simon & Schuster and HarperCollins. All those stories left us wanting more, more of the sisters. But, what can I say? Hollywood, is Hollywood.
In 2013, CBS was planning to use a “Glamouring” spell on Charmed. According to Vulture, Chris Keyser and Sydney Sidner were to write a pilot script. They were to re-imagine the original series. CBS would work with the Tannenbaum Company. Guess what? The spell backfired.
We wish them well.

Charmed, 70s Style.
In January 2017, news of the Charmed Ones returning hit the news. But this time, it was different. Instead of a reboot, the CW was to use the “To Go Back In Time” spell to transport viewers to 1976. In other words, a prequel of Charmed.
This time, Jennie Urman, along with Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin, signed on to write the scripts. We would see the sisters three while they were children. Possibly before Grams did her “Binding” spell on them.
In February of that same year, The CW had a Charmed draft in the works. The new series was to hit the CW in 2017-2018 or 2018-2019 Fall Season. Due to work, Jennie Urman put the series on the back burner. Now, like in 2013, the spell backfired.
The Reboot Stikes Again.
Now, the powers to be are summoning a reboot, again. According to Entertainment Online, the Charmed reboot is a “fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series” that “centres on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.”
Back the witch spells up. I am a HUGE fan of Charmed. As I see it, the original Charmed series did just what I quoted from Entertainment Online. The original series was, and is, fierce, funny, and full of feminist ideology. They vanquished demons, tore down the patriarchy and kept the importance of family.
As you can tell, I am not too happy about the reboot. And I am not alone.
Here’s the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don’t even think of capitalizing on our hard work. Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye.

Guess we forgot to do that the first go around. Hmph. https://t.co/kDXLBefuSG

While some may not get why I take issue with the network that didn’t want to renew Charmed 12 years ago ‘reimagining’ it now let me just say I understand it perfectly. Also this kinda stuff given all that Rose and Alyssa have done lately…um no. Just No https://t.co/Vp2htLtdbR

Yep. You nailed it. Their wording is terrible and a bit offensive. But, everyone makes mistakes. Perhaps with the backlash they will be more thoughtful in future.

#Charmed How can this be “more feminist” that 3 powerfull, indepedent & strong women in the 90’s fighting all Evils, owning successful careers, succeeding in the family lifes without a man ?! Charmed was already feminist and I grew up watching it.
Thanks @H_Combs & sisters. ❤❤— Rodrigue Delpierre (@RoddyMe) January 26, 2018
Hey, Hollywood! Listen To The Fans.
Hollywood, isn’t it clear to you? How can you not be hearing our cries? The fans don’t want a reboot, but a continuing story. Yeah, 70s series might have been good if done right. But, thanks to the story-lines of Wyatt and Chris. We got interested in how the Charmed One’s children came out and how they are dealing with their powers.
1) Why can’t @CBSTVStudios & @TheCW do a #Charmed reboot about 3 girl cousins whose moms are Phoebe, Piper and Paige. The cousins live in the Halliwell Manor while @Alyssa_Milano @H_Combs @rosemcgowan guide each of their daughters on their destiny of being the new Charmed ones…

Plus I’m still of the thinking that any #Charmed spin-off should be about Wyatt, Chris and the other 7 kids! With lots of Charmed Ones appearances of course! @wesramsey @drewfuller pic.twitter.com/QKBJW9nwFU

Please. Just stop. Why rebooting the original series? It was perfect! So don’t do it, especially if our 4 witches are not going to be involved. We DONT want this! #Charmed

Can we just get a continuation of #Charmed with Piper, Phoebe and Paige after somehow Prue Comes Back To Life Making The Power of Three Now The Power of Four. Now That’s a Reboot. Call it Something Else If It’s Not The Same Cast and Characters 13 Years Into The Future. @EW

Oh, Hollywood! Give ‘US’ What We Want.
Listen, Hollywood, the reunion shows are big right now. Hop on the train and gives us a Charmed Reunion series. How hard will that be? The way I see it, and many others, not hard at all. We would love to see the sisters back in action and guiding their children. Teaching them how to live in a mortal world, with magical powers.
What say you all? Do you want a #charmedreboot, #charmedprequal, or a #charmedreunion series? Let them hear your voices with the hashtags.
Hey you. Yeah, you. Have a read of this article ranking the top CW superheroes ever.
