As we all know, ‘winter is coming’. Well, for those of us in Australia at least. So here is our list of the top seven movies to look forward to in the upcoming cold and wet months.
If you’re from the other side of the pond, we hope you enjoy your summer, which will be spent sitting in movie theaters enjoying buttery popcorn.
Captain America: Civil War
The exciting plot that sees Captain America and Ironman in brutal combat has been firing up moviegoers for some time now. This much anticipated Marvel film brings together the likes of Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and many others, with the introduction of Spider-Man (finally!) and Black Panther to the franchise. This film is expected to be a high-quality superhero film, which has got us rather excited.
Set to be released on April 28th.
The upcoming “X-Men: Apocalypse” is the eighth film of the “X-Men” series and the conclusion to the trilogy that began with “X-Men: First Class”. The real question on our mind is if we will be seeing an appearance from the Aussie Hugh Jackman as his famous and career-launching role, Wolverine. Nonetheless, we are still greeted by the same heroic mutants we all love such as Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), as well as being introduced to a new evil mutant En Sabah Nur, commonly known as Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) who possesses an omnipotent Godly superpower.
Set to be released on May 26th.
This upcoming film sparks our interest and attention immensely. Its star-studded and very talented cast includes the likes of Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Ben Affleck, Cara Delevingne and many more. But what I am most excited for is seeing how Jared Leto performs his insane role as the infamous Joker. Intense stories of his preparation for the role have sparked anticipation in Hollywood, making every so anxious to see how he has chosen to represent his character, who was previously played masterfully by the late Heath Ledger. The DC entertainment film follows the series of comic books, which detail how some of DC’s most malevolent villains come together as a team to work towards saving the world.
Set to be released on August 5th.
‘Warcraft’ looks to open up the cinematic experience to gamers and allow the audience to familiarize themselves with one of the most popular video-game franchises of all time. Set in a grand-scale fantasy realm of Azeroth, the human civilization faces a fearful race invasion of Orcs, who are in desperate need to colonize a new world, after having to flee their own dying world. This is a story where both races are on the brink of destruction and extinction, and will do anything to save their people and home.
Set to be released on June 16th.
13 years after the very successful release of “Finding Nemo”, the world is treated to another highly anticipated sequel/spinoff. “Finding Dory” focuses on Ellen DeGeneres’ famous, friendly but forgetful blue tang fish, Dory. The film takes place about one year after the first film, and is set to feature many of the original characters, plus a bunch more.
Set to be released on June 16th.
Director Paul Greengrass and the notorious Matt Damon team up for another addition to the action packed, thriller ‘Bourne’ franchise. I am a huge fan of Greengrass’ work in both “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum”, and cannot wait to see how he works together with Damon to make this yet another class-act action film. This time, the CIA’s most lethal former operative is drawn out of the shadows, as Jason Bourne begins to remember who he really is, and tries desperately to uncover the truths about his past.
Set to be released on July 29th.
Also known as “Arms and the Dudes”, Jonah Hill and Miles Teller star in the true story of two young men, David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli, who won a $300 million contract from the US Pentagon to arm America’s allies in Afghanistan. The two stoner kids from Miami beach quickly rose to riches, but found that it lead to enemies both from abroad and home. This comedy drama is directed by Todd Phillips, the guy that brought you “The Hangover”, and features roles from Bradley Cooper and Dan Bilzerian.
Set to be released on August 19th.
So there you have it – our most anticipated summer movies of 2016. What do you guys think? Will you go see any, or all, of these?
