So you enjoy watching Nazis getting scalped. Here are 5 movies like Inglorious Basterdsto keep you entertained.
Inglorious Basterds is, for many reasons, fucking epic. And because we’re really nice people, we decided the epicness shouldn’t just stop with Tarantino.
Here are a few movies like Inglorious Basterds that you should love, filled with war, gore and weirdness. Thank us later.
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
For lovers of War films, Full Metal Jacket is one of the best. It’s a Stanley Kubrick classic, and portrays the ugly reality of the Vietnam War through the eyes of a Marine group.
This film has your necessary gory violence (you’re all animals), but it also contains really poignant moments of pain and sadness.
And if the image didn’t already remind you, Full Metal Jacket contains one of the most famous rants of film history. The Marines’ drill sergeant spends practically the whole first half of the film (Kubrick essentially created the film in two acts) insulting the soldiers in awesome fashion.
What makes this even cooler is that the actor actually was a drill sergeant, and amazingly, most of his rants are improvised.
So if you want some Tarantino violence, history and dark comedy, look no further.
Sin City (2005)
Wild, wacky and weally awesome, Sin City tells the story of three different people, each caught up in the violent corruption of their town, Basin City.
Now, this isn’t just your every day film. From the abstract storyline to the incredible colour palette, Sin City is in a world of its own. Fortunately though, that world is located only a few kilometres down the road from Tarantino’s.
The key similarity is their eccentricity, which is most clearly manifest in their violence. Like much of Tarantino’s work, Sin City is filled with quirky gore. Yum.
3 – The Expendables (2010)
Look, this won’t be the greatest piece of cinema you’ll ever watch. In terms of quality, it probably doesn’t even compare to Inglorious Basterds. But boy oh boy is it badass.
Yes, in terms of epicness, look no further. I would go as far as to say this is the sickest cast ever. I mean, think of who you’d ideally like to see in an action film. Stallone? Check. Statham? Check. Schwarzenegger? Muthufucking check. I mean, it’s even got Terry Crews!
In between all the explosions there are some funny lines too, which can’t hurt.
Bottom line is, if you liked Inglorious Basterds for the violence of the Nazi Hunters, you’ll probably love this.
4 – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
Inglorious Basterds is, at its core, a classic Western. So why look any further than the mother of all Westerns?
Starring Clint Eastwood (of course), The Good, the Bad and the Ugly follows a group of bounty hunters on their search to find a heap of buried gold.
Watching this, it’s clear to see where Tarantino gets much of his inspiration. From the setting to the storyline to the music to the characters, this is the Spaghetti Western at its best, and one where similarities to Inglorious Basterds can be drawn clearly.
So if you’ve got a spare three hours on your hands (I have no life), definitely give this a go!
5 – Every Tarantino Film Ever
Let’s be real, if you’re looking for something similar to a Tarantino film, you probably couldn’t find anything better than other Tarantino films.
One of the greatest directors of all time, Tarantino has carved a niche genre that sits outside of mainstream Hollywood. Like Inglorious Basterds, his albeit short filmomgraphy exhibits the best in quirky, violent and funny exploitation films.
If I had to recommend two that are most similar to Inglorious Basterds, I would recommend Kill Bill and Django Unchained. Both outstanding in their own rights, they capture that violent Modern Western feel that you can’t not love.
If you have any other movies like Inglorious Basterds you’d love to recommend, don’t hesitate to send them over in the comments. We’re huge fans as well!
