The Harley Quinn movie is becoming a reality with Margot Robbie securing the role.
Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn in the recent Suicide Squad was one of the blockbuster’s few highlights.
She was awesome, crazy, and absolutely kick-ass. The Harley Quinn character itself has been an important and beloved feature of the DC Universe for quite some time. So it was no surprise Warner Bros. were desperate to lock the Australian into the future of the role.
Rumours have been circulating for months now about the possibility of a Harley Quinn feature film. However, before the release of Suicide Squad, Robbie conceded that she wasn’t sure it was going to happen. Apparently there were some contract squabbles, with the potential deal meaning Robbie would be bound to a number of Warner Bros. productions, only one of which would be the Harley Quinn solo film.
The good news is, the contract has been signed. Hoorah!
This means that for the next few years, Warner Bros. is going to be a pretty Robbie-fied studio. The signed ‘first-look’ contract has ensured Margot will become both an actor and producer for a number of the studio’s upcoming projects, including an adaptation of Queen of the Air.
The even better news is, Robbie is now definitely going to continue her role as the infamous Harley Quinn.
This will be both for a solo film, as well as other projects within the DCU. And everyone knows how good DC has been recently, so get excited!
A star who may not be joining Robbie however is Jared Leto, who despite impressing as The Joker has repeatedly voiced his complaints about Suicide Squad. So, sadly, there’s a strong chance Harley Quinn will find herself with a new, non-Letoed Joker.
The big question is: What will this Harley Quinn solo film look like? We’re not sure, but whatever it is, we’re excited.
