The Game the movie is near! (Confusing, I know).
Ok everyone, it’s finally happening. An adaption of the 2005 New York Times Bestseller, The Game, is finally set to be released in 2017.
It’s been a long time coming and fans of the book should be in for a treat.
The Game tells the tale of a secret society of nerds turned pickup artists on their quest to master the art of seduction.
In a former life, Neil Strauss, the protagonist, was a journalist for Rolling Stone magazine. Despite interviewing many celebs he just couldn’t get lucky. Poor guy. The Game is a memoir of how Neil Strauss teamed up with a magician named Mystery and moved into a Hollywood mansion to learn how to seduce the rich and famous. For those unaware of the book, I want to clarify: this is non-fiction. Correct.
The film will star James Franco in a supporting role as the celebrity pick up artist known as Mystery. As of yet, the rest of the cast has yet to be decided, but at least we get to see Franco as a cartoon-like magician pick-up extraordinaire. I wonder who they will cast as Courtney Love? Oh well, a man can dream.
Neil Strauss’ life since The Game hasn’t been so glamorous.
Since The Game, Neil Strauss has had a pretty hard time with marriage, divorce and a sex addiction (this last one probably shouldn’t come as such a surprise). His outlook on life seems to be a little different than in his prime:
“Nearly every person I meet has a strong opinion on The Game, whether they’ve read it or not. For some, it changed their lives and led to marriage and children. For others, it is the one of the most terrifying things to ever happen to the dating world. For me, it is both, but I’m forever grateful for my time in the underground world of pick-up artists because it showed me that a guy who had given up all hope of ever being comfortable with himself and others could change.”
The Game will also be produced by Franco as the first of a four film deal with Damien Gregory.
The film has a budget of around $15-$20 million so hopefully it will everything one could hope for.
I am actually quite excited to see this film in 2017, and to see how they adapt what many view as a controversial book. It should be a really fun watch. Are you just as excited as I am? Who do you want to see cast in the film?
