Avengers: Infinity War is all about the ensemble cast and our favourite MCU characters joining forces. But one character will stand out above all the rest: Thanos.
An ensemble of some of Marvel’s biggest characters is nothing new in the MCU. Making Avengers Assemble, a movie where some of its biggest superheroes joined forces, was arguably one of the best moves the franchise has ever made. But one of the most exciting things about Avengers: Infinity War is the fact that it takes the word ‘ensemble’ to an unprecedented new level.
From its trailers to posters and fan art, the movie is bursting at the seams with awesome characters. This has lead to much speculation that the epic MCU celebration, Infinity War, will also include the deaths of some of our favourites.
One thing that seemed certain was the idea that there would be no particular lead in Infinity War. But one character does look to take centre stage: the villain, Thanos.
There’s nothing new about a movie that centres on an anti-hero, but to have everyone rooting against the lead does seem to be an exciting feature that will set this movie apart in a really interesting way.
Who is Thanos?
Marvel paint an intimidating picture of The Mad Titan on their website. This is only fitting for the character that’s going to challenge every superhero Marvel has to offer:
Thanos possesses the superhuman physiology of all Eternals, granting him superhuman strength, endurance, reflexes, and agility. His skin is nearly invulnerable, particularly against heat, cold, electricity, radiation, toxins, ageing, and disease, and he can survive indefinitely without food or water even before his “curse” from Death left him immortal, unable to die. His mind is also invulnerable to most forms of psychic attack, and can project a psionic blast of energy as well as blasts of plasma/cosmic energy from his eyes and hands.
Add to this the Infinity stones that Thanos has his eyes on. Not only are our favourite heroes joining forces to face the MCU’s best villain yet, but they have to contend with the danger of just what he could do with Power, Space, Reality, Mind and Soul in the palm of his hand.
Anthony Mackie, the actor who plays Falcon, was recently quoted as saying, “It’s all of us working around, orbiting Thanos because he’s such a big bad guy. He’s the uber bad guy. He’s the worst bad guy of all bad guys of all time.” Despite his lack of adjectives, Mackie certainly paints a thrilling picture.
You have every reason to be ridiculously excited for Infinity War!
The secrecy surrounding Infinity War leaves room for much speculation, but it also means that we don’t really know what to expect. In a world where news becomes viral in an instant, spoilers can become disappointingly unavoidable.
One of the most exciting aspects of this movie is just how little we know, but one thing is certain: When the MCU’s greatest come together to face The Mad Titan, it’s going to be an exhilarating, roller-coaster ride.
