For pop-culture fans, one of the biggest downsides to the COVID-19 pandemic is the high number of movies and TV Shows that have been forced to delay release dates and shorten seasons due to the crisis.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken a particularly bad hit. Black Widow, which should be in theatres now, has been pushed to November, and the Disney+ series Falcon And The Winter Soldier was forced to halt production just weeks away from the end of filming. The Eternals has been pushed to February, 2021, and many of the MCU films originally scheduled for 2021 probably won’t hit theatres until 2022.

However, at least one MCU production still has a chance of meeting its 2020 release date. The hopes of fans everywhere now rest on Wandavision.

What We Know So Far

Wandavision will focus on the character of Wanda Maximoff, supposedly explaining how she comes to be known as The Scarlet Witch. The series will also feature the return of Vision, who was apparently killed in Avengers: Infinity War. The characters of Darcy Lewis, Agent Jimmy Woo, and an older Monica Rambeau will also appear.

Little is known about the series plot so far, except that Wanda seems to be trapped in an idyllic, sitcom inspired universe. While she and Vision appear to be happy, something appears to be a little off.

The Series Has Finished Filming

Originally scheduled to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2021, Wandavision was eventually brought forward to a December 2020 debut. Some fans speculated a possible reason for this was that production on the series was running ahead of schedule.

Unlike Falcon And The Winter Soldier, Wandavision’s filming was not affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The series’ principal photography was completed in March, with a crew member posting a photo taken at the show’s wrap party.

While post-production work on Wandavision was halted by the pandemic restrictions, new rumours suggest that a large amount of visual effects work was already done.

But don’t celebrate just yet…

With the beginning of relaxed restrictions in the U.S. meaning that many people will soon be heading back to work, there’s a chance that Wandavision’s visual effects will be completed on schedule. This has fans hopeful that the series could still make its original December 2020 release date.

The main thing counting against the planned release date is the intricate web of the MCU, where everything is connected. While there is currently no known tie between Wandavision and Falcon And The Winter Soldier, that doesn’t necessarily mean one doesn’t exist.

However, there are confirmed strong ties between Wandavision and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, in which Elizabeth Olsen is set to star as the Scarlet Witch alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Stephen Strange. Originally slated for release in 2021, Multiverse Of Madness has been pushed to a March 2022 release date.

That creates a big gap between Wandavision and Multiverse. Even if the show is close to complete, Disney may hold it back to prevent any story threads from dangling too long before Multiverse Of Madness is released.

Disney hasn’t made any official announcements on an altered premiere date for Wandavision just yet, so let’s hope fans get some good news soon.
