The $52.4 billion dollar Disney-Fox deal has its perks especially considering that the X-Men and Fantastic Four are finally coming back home.
This is great news for superhero fans as Marvel can finally consider teaming up your favourite heroes in a single universe. While the deal might still take time to set its roots, Fox has decided to go on with the movies still in its works. The recently disclosed ‘Gambit’ is one of them.
What do we know about ‘Gambit’
Channing Tatum will star on the screen as Gambit in his standalone film. Shooting will start at Louisiana in March with a whopping $155 million budget and we can expect the movie to hit the theatres on Valentine’s Day, 2019. Gambit is a major character in the X-Men universe and also starred in the Avengers vs. X-Men comics as a principal ally. This could very well be the link that Marvel needs to introduce the X-Men to the MCU.
Phase 3 movies of MCU will come to an end with Infinity War Part 2 on May 18, 2019.
Whilst we cannot expect a crossover before this, the plans might develop to tweak the existing projects to begin tying these superheroes together. The X-Men movies currently in works are Deadpool 2 releasing on May 31, 2018, New Mutants on April 13, 2018 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix on November 2, 2018.
The crossover is near but cannot be expected until 2019
The X-Men: Dark Phoenix movie could also provide a well justified road to link up with the MCU since it is rumoured to deal with alternate timelines and multiverses. Coupling it with The Gambit, an Avengers X-Men crossover might not be far away.
It’s however unlikely that ‘Gambit’ will focus on anything but Gambit’s past and his linkup with the X-Men. So, a crossover movie might not be on the table until 2019. However, Marvel can continue building up the story behind the curtains.
‘Gambit’ will be out on February 14, 2019. Other Marvel movies in the works include Black Panther on February 16, 2018, Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6, 2018, Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019, the fourth Avengers movie on May 3, 2019, the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 5, 2019, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2020.
