We welcome Marvel’s Defenders Netflix Series to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, get ready.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is starting to look legit thanks to the addition of Marvel’s Defenders Netflix Series. This is the Netflix equivalent of The Avengers so get ready for a killer ensemble.

Marvel’s Defenders sounds like the perfect recipe for a hit Netflix series. So with that in mind let’s take a look at 5 things that you should know about The Defenders Netflix Series.

Marvel’s Defenders Netflix Series overview and release date.

The wait is nearly over and the series is scheduled to be released on August 18, 2017. This release will be of the 8 episode first season so hopefully that will keep you busy.

The Defenders follows four street level marvel heroes: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. They are burdened with their own personal challenges before coming together to save New York City. They eventually realise that they are stronger as a team than by themselves.

The awesome main cast includes actor Charlie Cox who will reprise his role as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil. This is great news because Marvel fans loved his performance in the Daredevil Netflix series. Oh and by the way, Daredevil season 2 is a must watch!

The Defenders Netflix series will also include Krysten Ritter, reprising her role as Jessica Jones.

Mike Colter will also reprise his role as Luke Cage which is super exciting because I can’t get enough of Luke Cage. One Netflix series isn’t enough for him and I reckon Mike Colter was born to play this role so I hope he does so for as long as possible.

Finally, for the main cast, Finn Jones will reprise his role as Danny Rand aka Iron Fist.

This ensemble cast is crazy awesome and I can’t wait to see how they all interact on screen together. The actors are sure going to be busy, keeping up with their own solo series as well as The Defenders Netflix Series.

Each of the four Marvel’s Defenders will have their own unique role.

Apparently The Defenders teaming up together will not be a smooth unit. The different personalities of these heroes will clash at times and they will have to put aside their own personal histories and baggage for the greater good. One of the show-runners of Netflix’s The Defenders, Marco Ramirez, gave a pretty interesting breakdown of the characters:

“Daredevil, the trained boxer of the group, just wants every punch to be the last,”

“Luke Cage plays defense — he’s the guy who will cover a child, he will use his body defensively.”

“Jessica Jones just wants the fight to be over, takes no joy in it and detests every part of the act, even the build up. That, as an attitude, is so much fun to watch once she’s fighting.”

“Danny Rand is kind of hot-headed, a little more naïve than the others. He’s very eager and gets himself into fights and bites off more than he can chew, a lot.”

This sounds like a really interesting mix of characters and should make for a dynamic series. I’m getting some serious Avengers vibes but darker. The fact that these heroes are all street levers i think will translate to a grittier and more violent series than something like The Avengers. I can’t wait!

The Hand will be the main group of villains in Marvel’s Defenders Netflix Series.

I reckon there will be a civil war thing going on (just a hunch), at least initially between The Defenders but they will have to put that aside. We know they’ll be fighting The Hand, a classic villain organisation in the Daredevil comics.

We also know that Alexandra, played by Sigourney Weaver, will feature as a main villain in the series, but to what extent? Well, we don’t know for certain, but we reckon she will hold a pretty powerful position within ‘The Hand’ organisation, maybe even the leader. Click here for more details.

Alexandra is everything you would want in a femme fatale. She is extremely cunning and as sophisticated as she is downright evil. She is a powerful villain in the New York City underworld and it will take a serious heroic effort from The Defenders to take her down.

Marvel’s Defenders Netflix Series will feature more than just the core four Defenders.

While there are only four Defenders, more heroes will work their way into this series. This isn’t much of a surprise considering Netflix loves to bring in guest heroes in every Marvel Netflix series.

Supporting characters such as Colleen Wing, played by Jessica Henwick, will also feature and help The Defenders mess shiz up. However it’s been hinted at that Colleen will not start the series in New York.

Other heroes that will feature include: Misty Knight, Trish Walker, Foggy Nelson, Jeri Hogarth, Karen Page, Stick, and of course, Claire Temple, a.k.a. Rosario Dawson. I feel it’s important to note that she has appeared in every Marvel Netflix Series leading up to The Defenders. She will play a key role in making The Defenders join forces.

A lot of the characters have already met in each of their respective shows so they will likely know each other in this version of The Defenders.

For example Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have already met so this past history could be skipped or maybe alluded to. But for sure there will be a crossover from the other Marvel Netflix series.

Well, there you have it, my breakdown on what to expect in the Marvel’s Defenders Netflix Series. It sounds like it’s going to be an awesome mashup of our favourite street level heroes and there’s nothing better than a killer ensemble. So hopefully it will live up to the hype.

Oh, and if you’re thinking “dang I want to watch The Defenders but can’t be bothered getting through the terrible Iron Fist,” we’ve got you covered here.
