If you were a fan of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, starring Ben Affleck’s Batman, then you’re probably already drooling over the next instalment, Justice League.
It’s pretty hard not to compare Ben Affleck with Christian Bale in The Dark Night trilogy.
On one hand, there is a strong case to be made that Affleck is the best muthufuckin’ Batman ever. He’s got the size advantage over Christian Bale, a rage level of over 9000, and just an over all intimidating guy. For anyone who has seen Dazed and Confused, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Perfect for portraying the dark, troubled Bruce Wayne.
I reckon if Ben Affleck and Christian Bale were to fight it out, Affleck’s Batman would beat the shit out of Christian Bale’s Batman.
It would be cruel, but we still love you Christian Bale. New film idea: Baleman vs Batffleck. There can only be one!
On the other hand one could say that Batman vs Superman was a total joke compared to The Dark Night trilogy.
Christian Bale did a better job of portraying both sides of Bruce Wayne: both the hero and the human being. I reckon he was also more suave and three dimensional as a character. We got to see Bale more social, flirty with the ladies and in an upper class setting. It was easier to connect with him as Bruce Wayne, the snob turned vigilante. Oh, and they were just better movies.
Let’s be honest, Batman vs Superman was pretty excessive with portraying Ben Affleck as a terminator-like destroyer of villains. It didn’t show much of his past or his life outside of Batman. Maybe his character was a bit underdeveloped compared to The Dark Night trilogy.
Whatever your opinions may be, its pretty obvious that the two are completely different actors.
They’re both great at portraying different sides of Batman: Affleck, the more aggressive side and Bale the more sensitive and human side.
According to Ben Affleck himself:
“It’s different in terms of tone and, obviously, just a different actor. I think the most profound difference is that I’m playing the part at an older age than those guys were when they played it, and it’s about a guy who’s had a long life of this experience, rather than someone who’s just setting out on the journey to become this guy. He’s older and wiser, I guess. And he was pretty pissed off in Batman v Superman, but now it’s not about finding revenge in Justice League, it’s about protecting the Earth. So the feel is different.”
I reckon both portrayals are cool in their own right. Are you guys as excited as us? What is you opinion on Ben Affleck vs Christina Bale?
