Lois Lane is set to make her CW debut in the upcoming Arrowverse crossover. We think these five actors fit the bill.

The CW have confirmed that Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman will return to Supergirl for the Arrowverse crossover in December 2018. Alongside him will be fearless Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, who will make her first appearance on the show.

Lane has been a long-time romantic partner for Superman’s alter-ego, Clark Kent, in the DC comics, and has appeared in most live-action versions featuring the boy scout superhero. Her appearance on Supergirl has long been awaited, with her being name-dropped in almost every season of the show.

The first season of Supergirl focused on the love-triangle between Kara Danvers, Jimmy Olsen and his ex-fiancée Major Lucy Lane, younger sister of Lois Lane. The show also saw the appearance of the Lane sisters’ father, General Sam Lane, whose strong stance against aliens put him in opposing ranks to Supergirl and her colleagues at the DEO.

Conjecture is rife as to who should take on the role of Lois Lane and we at Digital Fox definitely have our favourites. Here are six actors who should play Lois Lane in Supergirl.

5 – Holland Roden

Tyler Hoechlin’s Teen Wolf co-star Holland Roden seems to be a fan-favourite choice for Lois Lane, and has been endorsed by Arrow’s Roy Harper himself, Colton Haynes.

Roden’s turn as the hyper intelligent Banshee, Lydia Martin, in Teen Wolf makes her a great choice for Lane. She definitely knows how to play a smart character who gets in and out of scrapes. Her comic timing will likely work well with Hoechlin’s pleasantly comedic Clark Kent, making her an ideal choice. She is also the closest in appearance to the DCEU Lois Lane, played by Amy Adams, with her pale complexion and bright red hair.

Additionally, since the end of Teen Wolf in 2017, Roden has only appeared in six episodes of Channel Zero and has nothing else listed in her calendar. She definitely has the time to play the part.

4 – Constance Wu

Coming off of the ground-breaking success of Crazy Rich Asians is Constance Wu, who already knows how to lead a film, balance humour with drama, and bring a heady dose of quirkiness. Wu can command the big and small screen, as she has demonstrated with her starring role in Fresh off the Boat.

Wu has the ability to morph into any character she plays, while still bringing her signature sense of humour to the role. Her inclusion in Supergirl would also be a welcome injection of Asian diversity, which the Arrowverse has seriously been lacking.

3 – Samira Wiley

Orange is the New Black’s breakout star Samira Wiley stole viewers’ hearts with her kind and winsome Poussey Washington and has continued to make waves with her role as Moira in The Handmaid’s Tale.

Wiley has a flair for the dramatic and will likely be a great foil for Hoechlin if she plays Lois Lane as a serious hard-working reporter. But she is also incredibly versatile and knows how to inject humour into proceedings.

Wiley would have been an excellent choice for the role of Batwoman, which recently went to Ruby Rose. However, if The CW were to bring her into the fold, she would be a great addition to the Arrowverse, and may spark enough interest for a spin-off of her own.

2 – Priyanka Chopra

Former Miss World Priyanka Chopra continues to be a leading lady in Bollywood films. Her success translated to Hollywood as well with her starring role in FBI thriller Quantico and a turn as the villainous Victoria Leeds in 2017’s Baywatch. Quantico wrapped early this year, and Chopra already has a busy schedule with three more films in the pipe-line, a sign of how popular she is.

Though Chopra is not known for her comedic talent, there is nothing to say that the Lois Lane of Supergirl has to be humorous. From what we have seen of the Lane family, they are quite a serious lot and Chopra definitely has it in her to play the hard-nosed, stoic reporter we know and love.

1 – Chrissy Metz

Chrissy Metz and her co-stars on This Is Us know how to make audiences cry, but don’t be fooled by her dramatic acting chops; Metz also has excellent comedic timing, which she showcased in her appearance on The Last O.G. earlier this year.

Metz is an incredibly expressive actor who also has the uncanny ability to have amazing chemistry with her fellow co-stars. We can see her gelling incredibly well with Supergirl’s gang of heroes as well as adding a great deal of pathos to whatever mystery goes down during the crossover event.

The Arrowverse has done little to address its constant exclusion of body positive actors and characters – Arrow infamously cast Cynthia Addai-Robinson, a thin actor, for the role of canonically plus-size comic character Amanda Waller. The CW can make amends by casting a strong actor who happens to be a body-positive role model for one of DC Comics’ iconic characters.

These are our favourite choices to play Lois Lane, reporter extraordinaire and Superman’s confidante and devoted partner. Who The CW will actually go with is anyone’s guess but we certainly hope that they think out-of-the-box for this one!
