Australians are so so far away from the States, yet they manage to pinch some of the very best roles in the superhero universe. It doesn’t really make any sense, but it sure is super awesome. Here are some examples.
Harley Quinn: Margot Robbie
Margot is 26 years old and was born in Dalby Queensland, although currently he resides in London. She made her big screen debuts in 2013 with The Wolf of Wall Street and About Time and was chosen as Harley Quinn for the 2016 big money making, but total film flop, Suicide Squad. Will she get to play the role again? Probably not if DC Comics keep failing at movies.
Thor: Chris Hemsworth
The English accent sounds so fake, but is now so embedded in The Avengers line up that it is here to stay. Given Chris is still only 33, he has plenty of time left in the role. He also appeared in Star Trek (2009) and in the recent reboot of Ghostbusters as a secretary. Chris lives in Byron Bay. Of course he does, the lucky lad.
Wolverine: Hugh Jackman
Hugh was 31 when he first played played the Adamantium filled hero. When he first turned out for the role he wasn’t exactly the mass of muscle he is now. He’s been in the X-Men series for almost 17 years, and is set to bow out after his next film in the series. He currently lives in Sydney.
The Joker: Heath Ledger
Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker is the stuff of legends. Considering he would come top of most people’s favourite Jokers list, especially given that most actors who have played the role are exceptional, it’s a remarkable achievement for the prematurely lost Aussie. His performance in The Dark Knight is one of my all time personal favourites.
Captain Boomerang: Jai Courtney
Well, in fairness, an Aussie actor should of course play one of the few Aussie characters in the Marvel universe. Another from the Suicide Squad, Jai Courtney also played a role in Jack Reacher and A Good Day to Die Hard. He currently lives in Los Angeles.
The Hulk: Eric Bana
Let’s not forget about The Hulk. It’s true that in typical Hulk style, these films didn’t really get off the ground. But the first did feature one of our favourite Aussies, Eric Bana. Too bad the trailer of the film was far and beyond the best part. He currently lives in Melbourne.
Not a bad effort from the Aussie actors.
Let’s hope they continue to dominate in the big movies. Oh, and for a bit of fun, let us know who you would play?
