It’s Christmas time again. Many people are watching some of the best shows Christmas has to offer, such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed ReindeerMiracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life. But, there are those who know the darker side of Christmas, the demonic side. Below are 12 Christmas horror movies that will put the scare in your stocking and make you think twice about disobeying the rules.

1. Silent Night, Bloody Night (1972) (Watch on Amazon Prime)

 

Nothing conveys a family get-together more than slashing people up on Christmas Eve.

The former insane asylum owned by Wilfred Butler survives a fire. 20 years later a lawyer and his assistant show up at the old asylum, which is now up for sale by Jeffrey Butler, grandson of Wilfred Butler. The Sheriff discovers Wilfred Butler’s grave is dug up and his body missing. Now people are dying one by one at the hands of an anonymous killer.

Has the ghost of Wilfred Butler return to save his home from unwelcome intruders, or is something more mysterious at play?

Sorority sisters + Christmas = bloodshed. Someone climbs in the attic of a sorority house in Bedford. During a Christmas party, one of the sorority sisters receives an obscene phone call. The caller threatens to kill everyone, and he keeps to his word.

What happens to a little boy who sees Santa putting the moves on his mother? He grows up and goes on a murder spree, all in the name of Santa Claus.  He gives gifts to the good boys and girls, but those who are on his bad list, well, you just better watch out.

Christmas is not Christmas until you receive an unusual gift, a Mogwai, from your father, with a few simple instructions. One: No bright lights. Two: Don’t get him wet, and three: Never, no matter how much begging, never feed him after midnight.

Billy and Kate, along with the townsfolk of Kingston Falls, discover what happens when you break the three simple rules.

5. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) (Watch on Netflix)

 

Halloween meets Christmas in this classic Halloween & Christmas tale. Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of the town of Halloween, is unhappy with the usual Halloween celebrations. Looking for something new, Jack stumbles upon a site in the forest: seven trees with doors leading to various holidays. Jack opens the door to Christmas Town and falls in love with Christmas. Returning to Halloween Town, Jack tries to explain what Christmas is.

Can he achieve his quest? Will he conquer Christmas and rule over both holidays? Will he learn the true meaning of Christmas?

6. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010) (Watch on Amazon Prime)

 

In the region of Lapland, Finland, in the depths of the Korvatunturi Mountains, 1,594 feet deep, lies the best-guarded secret of Christmas. Thanks to a British research team, they have dug up an ancient burial mound. Who is inside? The real Santa Claus is captured, and his elves will do whatever it takes to free him before he’s sold.

Michael Briskett meets the perfect woman, Cindy. She invites him to her family’s holiday celebration, a dream come true for him.  The dream shatters when he finds out the truth about Cindy and her family. Will he get out alive, or become part of the holiday feast?

In this twisted spin on home-invasion horror, Ashley, a mild mannered babysitter, must defend Luke and his friend Garrett when intruders break into the house. Ashley learns who the real intruders are and she is now running for her life. Lesson to learn from this movie: be careful who you babysit for, it can turn deadly.

9. Krampus (2015) (Watch on HBO, rent from Vudu, or rent from Amazon)

 

Pay attention to what you wish for; it may come true. Just ask Max and his grandmother, Omi. Both just wanted a traditional family Christmas, but no one else on their side. Max writes a letter to Santa Claus on what he truly wants for Christmas. After being made fun of at the dinner table, he destroys his letter and throws it out the window, unleashing an ancient demonic spirit, Krampus.

Will the family mind their ways, or will they die gruesome deaths?

Who’s next?! You are. WCW/WWE wrestling star, Bill Goldberg plays Santa Claus, a demon who lost a bet with an Angel and must play nice by delivering toys to all the good children for a thousand years. Time’s up, and it’s time for Santa to make up for lost time.

Nicholas, his girlfriend Mac, and grandfather know the truth about Santa. Can they save the town before Santa uses finishing moves and destroys Christmas for everyone?

Dangerous Dan is a radio DJ stuck doing a shift on Christmas. During his broadcast, he tells a series of interwoven stories. Santa is dealing with an infection that’s spreading among his elves. Krampus shows one family the true meaning of Christmas: a child is acting strangely after a trip to the forest, and a group of high school students investigates a homicide that happened before the holiday season.

12. The Children (2008) (Watch on HBO or rent on Amazon and Vudu)

 

Elaine, Jonah and their children, along with Elaine’s sister, Chloe, her husband and children expect a Christmas filled with sledding, laughter and hot cocoa as they all head to their vacation home in the country. Their fun takes a turn for the worst after a mysterious flu-like virus plagues the children. One by one the children become deadly, turning on their parents. Will the parents survive the attacks from their children, or will they succumb to their deadly forces?
