FanWriters: How to optimise GIQUE content for google (10)

10. How to optimise GIQUE content for google

Google basics

There are so many things we could include here, but below are some of the basics. Being a good writer is the first step in making a career in writing for digital. All the steps following that are around making the content readable and appealing for Google.

Keywords are important

Selecting a relevant and important keyword, or “key-phrase” and using it often throughout your content and in your headings helps to inform Google what your article is about. So it’s important to do this. Try to use it naturally, but understand it's best to use it at least 3-5 times in your content piece and in at least one heading.

Write for a Gaming Magazine

Writing a title for google

The title should be focussed on answering a question or a “search” someone might put into Google. For example someone might search for “What do I need to know before watching Logan?” and the title might be “5 Important Things to Know Before Watching Logan”. The title should include one of the keywords. For example, if the keyword was best Gal Gadot movies, the title might be “5 of the Best Gal Gadot Movies”.

Writing subtitles for google

To create a Heading 2 sub-title click on ‘Paragraph’, and from the drop down selection choose ‘Heading 2’. Heading 2s give information to Google, so if your article is about Gaming Tips for Farcry, you should convey this in the Heading 2 sub-headers as much as you can. The first subtitle (H2) should be at the start of the content and also contain the keyword.

Become a superhero movie journalist

Linking to other content

If you remember seeing/reading a related article to that of your own article, highlight the related sentence in your article, go to the toolbar and click the paperclip button that says ‘Insert/edit link’, and paste the link. Edit the link and tick the button to ensure this opens up on an external not internal page. This helps build a network within our own site that Google can read.

Getting links from other content

It’s also hugely influential to your content’s performance if you manage to get external sites linking to your article. This can be achieved through friends who write for other sites, through guest writing on other sites, or just by contacting the writer and requesting a link. If you achieve this, good on you because it’s huge for your article, and the GIQUE FanWriter community.
