The following article contains spoilers for The Bad Batch episode 8: Reunion.
Having removed their inhibitor chips and parted ways with Captain Rex, The Bad Batch are left on the scrapper planet, Bracca. The episode revolves around the team trying to escape the planet and the Empire, who have tracked them down.
Debts to Pay
Whilst Wrecker teaches Omega how to disarm explosives, Hunter and Tech try to formulate a plan to pay their debt to Cid. Echo is against the idea of becoming arms smugglers, believing that they should have gone with Rex and been the soldiers they always were. Hunter, however, reminds him that they’re on a different path now that they have Omega in the mix.
Having decided to scavenge the Jedi cruiser for weapons and download intel, the team split up and get to work. But, the Empire is on their tail.
Back on Kamino
When Crosshair reports that Clone Force 99 are on Bracca, Admiral Rampart orders them to be terminated on sight. Lama Su advises against this and suggests that it would be beneficial for the Empire to keep the enhanced clones alive, but he has an ulterior motive. He and Nala Se discuss their ‘contingency plan’ and how the Empire’s mission on Bracca endangers it. At this point we know that Omega is the contingency plan, we just don’t know why.
Nala Se reminds Lama Su that they already have somebody ‘handling matters,’ most likely referring to Fennec Shand from episode 4. However, he reminds her that Omega’s safe return is the priority and that they need more bounty hunters.
On Bracca, Crosshair leads his elite squad to try and kill The Bad Batch. This is the first time the group has been together since they got separated on Kamino.
Tech jams the Empire’s scanners and hacks their communications whilst the team moves through the Jedi cruiser wreckage. Knowing that it’s too dangerous to go back to their ship, Hunter says that they need to find a covert way out, which leads them to make their way to the hanger. Using their military know-how, they manage to stay out of sight.
When Tech intercepts a communication from Crosshair directing all troops towards the hanger, Hunter redirects his team through the artillery deck. But, Crosshair deceives them and has laid a trap, calling their strategy ‘predictable.’ Omega tries to make Crosshair see sense, telling him that his actions are being controlled by his inhibitor chip, but to no avail. He still believes that The Bad Batch are traitors and intends to kill them all. To prove his point, he targets Omega to force Hunter to let his guard down.
Whilst Crosshair is distracted by Hunter and Omega, Tech and Echo formulate an escape plan. Rerouting power to the artillery deck’s cannons, they collapse the whole room and use the chaos to cover their escape.
With their options limited, The Bad Batch plan to get off the cruiser by travelling through the engine. But, Crosshair is one step ahead of them, blocking the exit. To force their hands, Crosshair’s team powers up the engine. Either they get incinerated, or they face their ex-teammate.
Hunter suggests using the explosives Wrecker took from the armoury to disable the engine. Tech says this isn’t possible, but they can use them to break away. When the bombs detonate, the team are thrown in different directions, all plummeting to the ground. Crosshair, meanwhile, finds himself on the receiving end of the engine’s power. He suffers facial burns as a result.
A Familiar Face
Agreeing to meet back at their ship, Hunter and Omega are the first ones to arrive. However, they find someone waiting for them. Fans of ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ will recognise the stranger as Cad Bane, a reoccurring character who is known to be a fierce bounty hunter. He’s after Omega, but has to get through Hunter first.
After a tense standoff with Hunter, Cad Bane shoots his chest plate and stuns Omega. He takes her with him, leaving the rest of The Bad Batch to find a wounded Hunter outside of their ship.
The episode ends with Hunter regaining his consciousness as the team escape Bracca. He tells them what happened and says that they have to find Omega.
