I’m struggling to decide if I’m a supporter of a new Han Solo movie trilogy or not.
In one aspect, it’s a new film about one of the all-time best characters I’ve had the pleasure to come across in Han Solo.
But on the other hand, I don’t like a good thing to be ruined by a newbie remake-type film.

Regardless if I’m excited for this movie to kick off or not, it’s pre-production is already underway.
Following the recent confirmation from Disney, Harrison Ford’s iconic role has already been passed down to a new generation of actors. Alden Ehrenreich, who is best known for his role as the Western star Hobie Doyle in the 2016 Coen Brother’s film Hail, Caesar! Will be bringing some life back into a young space traveling smuggler.
I trust that Ehrenreich is the right choice to play a young Solo, as I would presume a tonne of research, consideration and thought has gone into this decision made by tens of people involved with the film. The 26 year-old actor gave an outstanding performance in Hail, Caesar! And I’m sure had several impressive screen tests for his part. I’m still slightly skeptical about how he will portray the young Solo, but that’s nothing against him personally. There’s just a lot of expectation to follow the mighty Harrison Ford.
Alongside its central Star Wars: VIII film, set to be released in about a years time, Disney have planned for a three-part spinoff trilogy which focus’s on Han Solo, bounty hunter Boba fett and yes, Chewbacca too, in what has been described as an ‘original story’ for the infamous two space companions.
The film will cover events in Solo’s life that took place prior his inauguration into the rebel alliance, set prior to the original trilogy that was first created in 1977. Part one of the trilogy is rumoured to be called Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, keeping on par with this year’s release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. But no official name has been detailed so far.

The Han Solo film is slated for release on May 25th, 2018 and will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Both Lord and Miller’s work can be seen in the The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. However, the concern I have with these two directors is that they lack the experience directing more serious films. Their experience revolves a lot around comedies and less Sci-fi action films. However, as we all know, Han Solo does possess a rather comedic side, which I think will play to the strengths of both directors. Hopefully they can achieve the right balance between comedy, action and drama.
No other members of the cast have yet to be revealed, but I’ll be sure to be on the ball and keep you updated as soon as more information comes out.
