The question on every Star Wars fan’s lips. Who are Rey’s Parents? Well, we have some thoughts.
We really want you to debunk this, we really do, so please comment if you know you’re Star Wars stuff. We have a theory about the parentage of Rey, and we can back it up with some movie and Star Wars logic.
The Father – Luke Skywalker
Firstly, Papa Bear has got to be Luke right? Every Star Wars film has been so centred around the Skywalker Family, and Lucas himself is quoted as saying that “it’s a family tale“. Star Wars has always had all the drama and emotion of a normal family, but in hyperdrive. I actually wrote an article on that here.
Yes, I know this might seem like an easy option, but it makes sense for Rey and Kylo to be cousins, setting up an epic battle in the final film. It also aligns itself to the original trilogy, and the directors of the 3rd generation of movies have acknowledged that the latest trilogy has tonnes of parallels with the original.
Now for the plot twist.
What really got me thinking about this was the first episode of the latest season of The Walking Dead, where everyone was so focussed on one character passing away, but then, for the extra shock value, we got two. So why not the same here.
The Mother – Satine Kenobi (daughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi)
Don’t recognise the name? That’s because I made it up, kind of. Don’t get so hung up on the name but I suspect that our good friend Obi-Wan Kenobi has a daughter with Satine Kryze, a Mandalorian we were made aware of in The Clone Wars animated series. I’ve just gone with the daughter taking the mothers name after she passed away in the Clone Wars.
The Clone Wars is considered a legitimate part of the Star Wars franchise by Disney, so everything that happened in those is canon. Satine could easily have had a little girl who was strong in the force. Naturally keeping Satine a secret would be a good idea given the events of Episode 3, but who’s to say she didn’t go looking for Obi-Wan on Tatooine, maybe she even found him and came across a certain young Luke Skywalker, only to meet up with him again much later?
The timing works. Luke was born at dawn of the Empire, and Satine’s daughter would be just a little older. The reason I like this theory so much is that it gives so much unknown history between the trilogies, and paves the way for Obi-Wan’s own film.
Wouldn’t it be perfect? And make all of Obi-Wan’s work in the prequels more important?
Fire in your comments and thoughts, as we would love to discuss this one with you.
